Kids for Christ - Foundation for Family and Life (KFL) is a Catholic charismatic organization that  advocates and supports the vocation and importance of family.  Every year, KFL holds their annual conferences where all members meet and gather together.  KFL asked us to design the kit and logo of their conference whose theme was based on  treasure hunting and adventure. 

Key Point challenges:

  • The design of the logo should correspond with both the theme and KFL's core values.  It should be visually engaging especially for young participants.
  • The importance of spirituality should be incorporated in the design.
  • The kit's layout should be easy to use and understand.
  • The kit should enable the participants to interact during their activities.

Client Brief

KFC conference's  theme was "Joy Adventure: the Quest for Real Treasure."  With this theme, KFC wanted us to do the following:

  • Use treasure hunting and adventure as the specific visual cue for the theme
  • Make the kit and logo visually engaging for the participants ages 5 - 13 years old
  • Incorporate the importance of spirituality in the design
  • Create a conference kit that contains the schedules and activities.
  • Create a map of the location that participants can use during their treasure hunting activity.
 

The project gave us the opportunity to be flexible in our designs and approach.   Fortunately, the organizers of the KFL was open to ideas and collaborated with us.

To translate the ideas into visuals, we capitalized on doing a simple illustration (anime-like drawing) that children can easily relate to and appreciate.  We used vibrant colors with strong hints of brown to create the ambiance of adventure.

During the process of designing the kit, we bore in mind that kids respond to simple and clutter-free content.   Thus, we maximized the medium  by spreading the content all across the kit.   It was a constant evolution from its basic form to its final printed kits.  To make things more interesting, we re-created the map and re-interpreted it in a different manner, adding mystical names of fictitious places.  However, we also made sure that the location if these places was correct and relatively close to the actual place to prevent confusion.

The conference kit was a success and the participants were happy with the output.  .
